Return to KLA Advance

In keeping with KLA’s commitment of fostering an inclusive workplace through cultural celebrations and community outreach, two employee resource groups (ERGs) organized cultural history and community service events for employees to promote greater awareness and support sustainable change.

Juneteenth

KLA’s BELIEVE (Black Employees Leading in Inclusion, Excellence, Vision, and Education) ERG hosted a live, global webcast in celebration of Juneteenth, recognized annually on June 19 in the United States.

Guest speaker Fred J. Saffold III, founder and director of The True Black History Museum – A traveling Black History exhibit, discussed the significance of the new US federal holiday Juneteenth that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and celebrates African American culture.

Saffold, who shared quick histories of accomplished Black authors, scientists, researchers, politicians, jurists and activists, says Juneteenth not only acknowledges the history of slavery, but also emphasizes education, achievement and the road ahead.

“Juneteenth celebrates Black American excellence and accomplishments and is a time for reflection, self-assessment and planning for the future.

Science is Elementary (SiE)

KLA’s Konexión ERG organized a teambuilding event at the company’s Milpitas, California campus to support STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education for children and schools in low-income communities.

In collaboration with the nonprofit Science is Elementary (SiE) and the KLA Foundation, 20 employees came together to volunteer their time and assemble 800 books in support of SiE’s goal of distributing 15,000 SiE Books in 2022.

Employees at KLA headquarters in Milpitas, California assemble hands-on science books for children from diverse backgrounds. The Konexión employee resource group organized the event.

The series of short books feature children with diverse backgrounds using science to solve problems. By using the SiE Books, children learn that they can think like scientists and be scientists. Through hands-on experiments and engineering challenges, kids develop scientific reasoning skills and engage their creativity.
